JYOTISH YOGA


MODERN LIFESTYLE SUFFERS FROM “STRESS”. IF ONE IS NOT PROPERLY INTEGRATED AND BALANCED ON PHYSICAL AND MENTAL LEVEL, ONE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COPE UP WITH STRESS. THE RESULT IS RESTLESSNESS AND CONFLICT IN THE MIND AND DISHARMONY IN ALL THE FUNCTIONS. THE ANXIETY AND WORRIES CAN EASILY DISTURB THE MIND WHICH LEADS TO VARIOUS PSYCHOSOMATIC DISORDERS.

IN HIS MATURE STATE, THE INDIVIDUAL HAS GONE BEYOND THESE FEELINGS OF HAPPINESS AND SORROW AND THEN NOTHING IN HIS ENVIRONMENT CAN AFFECT HIM. IT CAN BE SAID THAT HE IS ENVELOPED BY A “PROTECTIVE AUREOLA” WHICH RENDERS HIM IMMUNE TO SUCH EXTERNAL INFLUENCES.

A LOT OF PROBLEMS WERE NOT NECESSARILY DUE TO MAJOR DISEASES BUT SUE TO INDIVIDUALS FAILURE ON THEIR PART TO ACCOMMODATE TO OR COPE WITH THE PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL STRESSES OF EVERYDAY LIFE,AS IT IS COMMON TODAY.

A SOUND MIND IN A SOUND BODY WAS THE KEY TO HEALTHY EXISTENCE AND YOGA WAS ALL ABOUT ATTAINING BOTH.

YOGA IS AN AGE OLD SCIENCE AND A WAY OF LIFE AND IS FULL OF TENSION REDUCTING REMEDIAL MEASURES WHICH ARE FREE FROM ADVERSITIES AND HENCE ONE OF THE SAFEST MEDICINES AVAILABLE TODAY FOR A VARIETY OF AILMENTS.IT IS NO LONGER RELATED TO SORT OF MYSTICISM OR LOOKED UPON AS A TRADITIONAL SCEINECE BUT HAS A STRONG SCIENTIFIC FOOTING AND THUS ACCEPTED BY THE MEDICAL AUTHORITIES, THE WORLD OVER.

“YOGA” HAS A UNIQUE ROLE IN HEALTH AND DISEASE.IT HAS THE POWER TO PREVENT PROBLEMS IN HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS BY TEACHING THEM TO COPE WITH STRESS AND STRAINS OF DAILY LIVING.IT ALSO HAS A VITAL ROLE IN TREATING CERTAIN DISORDERS VIZ. ASTHAMA, HYPERTENSION, INDIGESTION, AND INSOMNIA.

A LOT OF MUSCULOSKELETAL PROBLEMS, VIZ: BACKACHE, NECK PAIN, MUSCLE STRAINS, ETC RESULT FROM
NO MAJOR STRUCTURAL DERANGEMENT OF DISEASES BUT ARE ORDINARY INSUFFICIENCIES OF FLEXIBILITY AND TONE OF PARASPINAL,ABDOMINAL AND OTHER GIRDLE MUSCLES.THESE COULD VERY EASILY BE PREVENTED AS WELL AS ACTIVELY AND EFFECTIVELY TREATED WITH SIMPLE YOGIC PRACTICES.

YOGA IS NOT EXERCISE BUT AN ART OF RELAXATION.EXERCISE PROGRAMMES OR WORKOUTS ARE STRENUOUS, STIFF, JERKY AND FAST MOVEMENTS OF LIMBS GIVING RISE TO FATIGUE AND EXHAUSTION, WHEREAS “YOGA” IS A RELAXATION PROCESS WITHOUT DISTURBING THE NORMAL BREATHING PROCESS,AND ANY DEVIATION FROM THE NORMAL IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

THE YOGIC MOVEMENTS ARE DELIBERATE AND VERY SLOW, WITH ENOUGH TIME TO RECOGNIZE HIS /HER OWN LIMITS ON STRECHING HIS/ HER MUSCULAR CAPACITIES WITHOUT DISCOMFORT.
